Interactive billboard in Times Square

The Clear Channel have just launched an interactive billboard in Times Square.
It’s a high-def billboard and consumers can play games, access free wi-fi and download video and audio content from the ads (served in 8 minute spots).
The format launched with ads from CNN, Pioneer and New Line Cinema. Read more.
iPhone attention to detail
One of the things I’m just starting to notice on the iPhone is the incredible attention to detail on all aspects of the interface. Even the smallest things have been thought through, and this leads to a great overall experience.
Yesterday I was setting up the world clock function. You remember on old mechanical clocks as the second hand moves, it jumps forward and then very slightly pulls back as it advances – yep, the clock on the iPhone does that as well.
The notes functionality looks like a Post It, the font is a handwriting font, the icons for trash, forward and next are all little animated drawings. When you delete a note it crumples itself up and squeezes itself into the trash can. Pressing the next button, peels the note off the screen leaving you with a fresh piece of paper.
I could go on forever on this topic, but finally, the calculator is a design tribute to a 1977 classic Braun design. (I could also start chatting about how other Dieter Rams product designs influence Apple today, but that’s for another post).
These little things on their own are cute details, but cumulatively add up to create a charming, fun and easy to use interface. If only all interface designers paid this much attention to the details….
